Primary Plus Virtual Programming

At the onset of the pandemic, we all need to stay connected. In Spring of 2020, Primary Stages and the Einhorn School of Performing Arts (ESPA) committed to creating community even as we were socially distant and grappling with the new normal. We worked to overcome isolation through the creation of free virtual programming, including virtual new play creation and performance opportunities through ESPA, digital readings with the Latinx Playwrights Circle, and virtual read-alongs of our favorite shows led by the artistic team.

We also curated a Virtual Master Class Series and Lunch-and-Learn Playwriting Sessions, which are still available to our community! See below for more information and to learn from our incredible family of artists.

All of Primary Stages free Primary Plus virtual programs were made possible thanks to the generous support of the Axe-Houghton Foundation and The Howard Gilman Foundation.

Virtual Master Classes

Many of our esteemed Primary Stages family of artists volunteered their time to host FREE Virtual Master Classes to keep you engaged and inspire your art. These videos are brief interviews of our artists talking about their life and career, sharing advice, and answering some “questions from the audience” submitted in advance of these filmings and answered by the artist. Master Class participants included Theresa Rebeck, Kate Hamill, Jason O’Connell, Charles Busch, Donald Margulies, Mary Bacon, Thom Sesma, David Caparelliotis, Kimberly Senior, Stephanie Klapper, Sharon Washington, and more. Lunch-and-Learn Playwriting Prompts

For all of the playwrights, aspiring writers, and those brand-new to the craft! Primary Stages hosted weekly lunch-and-learn sessions led by our family of artists, including Adam Gwon, Daniel Talbott, Kate Moira Ryan, Erin Daley, and more. These free, hour-long writing workshops included writing prompts and Q&A, giving writers the opportunity to connect while creating new material and keeping their skills sharp. These sessions were all recorded so writers would have the opportunity to revisit these prompts at any time. CLICK HERE to dive into this series of writing exercises.
