Lina Patel is a performer, playwright, and television writer whose work investigates power and non-traditional relationships in a precarious world. Working across genres, Lina served as co-producer for Ava DuVernay's "Cherish the Day" and previously, DC's "Krypton" and CW's "Frequency." Currently, Lina is developing her original drama about mental health and law enforcement for BET Plus and her first hybrid-animation project about a rocket prodigy in search of her missing mother with Aaron Simpson and Trioscope Studios. Theater work (selected): The Ragged Claws, nominated for Cherry Lane's Mentor Project; Sankalpan (Desire), an adaptation of Chekhov's Three Sisters set in pre-Partition India presented at RADA; Karma produced at The Echo Theater Company. Commissions and Workshops (selected): Playwright's Arena, Yale Repertory Theatre, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, The New Group, East West Players, Center Theater Group, the Japanese American National Museum. Residencies include: New Harmony Project (2012 and 2021), The Sewanee Writers Conference (Walter E. Dakin Fellow). In 2024, Lina was one of five writers invited to develop new work with The Lark Playwright's Workshop at 2nd Stage (NYC). This year, she is co-moderating and a playwright in residence for Rogue Machine Theater's inaugural Playwright's Roundtable (L.A.). Her new play, Traces of Desire, will be published by Bloomsbury, U.K. in 2024. In her spare time, Lina is a Lecturer of playwriting at Pomona College. Lina got her start as a critically acclaimed theatre and voice-over actor.
