With both an intuitive and a practical approach to a libretto's unique dramatic structure, Tony and Pulitzer Prize winner Marsha Norman will lead the class in an examination of classic and contemporary musicals. Marsha's hands-on training of her peerless, award-winning technique will provide both musical theater writers and those artists interested in the form an intimate glimpse at the process of a master storyteller. Students should be well versed in one classic and one contemporary musical to discuss and scientifically dissect in class. For the purposes of this workshop, the turning point from classic to contemporary musical structure is Hair (1967). Through analyzing these structures, you'll leave with concrete tools that will help you construct both well-made and wholly original stories.
