"High Maintenance", "Awkward Black Girl", "Catherine", and "Broad City" are just a few examples among the many popular, successful, and hilarious examples of web series—one of the newest storytelling mediums to take the world (and our smart phones) by storm. Short-form programming created especially for the internet and designed with the immediacy of the audience in mind, web series are the digital marriage of screen and television writing; a platform for writers to do what they want, unrestricted by producers or censors, and uniquely positioned to go viral for maximum exposure. Over the course of this 10-week class, your own home will transform into a TV writer's room as you interact with your classmates and the creator of "Submissions Only", Kate Wetherhead, via the live Citrix platform to develop the first season of your very own dramatic or comedic web series. In ten weeks, you'll pitch, outline, and write an 8-episode series that will be ready to shoot.
Previous online students please note that this class will follow a different structure than the ESPA Online First Draft and Online Rewrite classes. See below to learn more about our live lectures and interactive Citrix platform!

About the online platform for this class:
Citrix’s GoToMeeting is an easy, effective, and efficient way to interact online in a personable way without any complicated set-ups. The person running the meeting sends out a meeting link and at the time of your class, you just click the link to launch your attendance in the live virtual classroom experience. In the virtual classroom, each participant can share their webcam so that you’re not only hearing your instructor and classmates but seeing them too, making it feel similar to being in one of the studios at ESPA. If you can’t log in via a computer, there are also options to phone in to the meeting so you can still participate in the class, even if you find yourself without computer or internet access. And GoToMeeting has an iPhone and iPad app, making it possible to take part in class from any device.
