Developed by Stanisklavsky in the final years of his life, Analysis Through Action is a galvanizing, physical, improvisation-based rehearsal technique meant to crack open actors' inhibitions and empower them to generate brave, surprising, full-bodied work. Dissatisfied by the limitations of his early, more purely psychological work, Stanislavky developed this approach to acting that begins with the body and connects to an actor's full self. This technique will become a powerful tool in your belt—usable both as a basis for long-term rehearsal work and as a specific means of addressing questions that arise in the rehearsal process. Through in-class activities and homework assignments, you will be on your feet working with actors to apply the technique. Directors will leave this workshop ready empower actors to work from the outside in, freeing themselves from the confines of the text and electrifying the physicality of their characters.
