As a director in NYC, much of your work is on new plays with emerging or established playwrights. The development process is a necessary part of bringing the work from an early draft to a script that can be submitted and produced, making your role in this process unlike your typical directing work. This workshop will give you the tools to communicate with playwrights and actors in order to best facilitate the new play development process, as well as walk you through the process of this development from table work to a 29-hour reading. You will learn strategies for setting workshop goals, how to best talk to your playwright and facilitate feedback, and how to organize and direct a successful play reading. By the end of the workshop, you'll be ready facilitate new play development and be a partner to playwrights within this process.
