Cabaret is the perfect medium for musical theater performers who want to showcase their chops and singers who want to experience the intimate art of nightclub performance. Eric Kornfeld—writer for the shows of Bette Midler, Rosie O’Donnell, Judy Gold, and Betty Buckley—will guide you in creating your very own cabaret: from choosing material to putting together an act with an emphasis on presence, song interpretation, and banter that is funny, specific, honest, and in your voice. You will learn how to effectively and resourcefully communicate with an audience, as well as the basics of how to market yourself and your act. Bernie Furshpan, producer and owner of The Metropolitan Room, will join you for an exclusive discussion on the ins and outs of performing in clubs and how to prepare an act, hire a music director, promote yourself, and more. This challenging class culminates in a performance in a professional group show at The Metropolitan Room. You will leave this class with two polished songs, a solid understanding of working in cabaret, the ability to create and promote your act, and a performance at the Metropolitan Room to add to your resume.
