Cuts. Rewrites. The playwright is in the audition room. The reader isn’t helping. These are just some of the curveballs you may encounter in an audition for a new play. Guided by Lisa Donadio, Associate Casting Director for Playwrights Horizons, you’ll learn how to handle these unique challenges with ease and how to impress a casting director searching for the perfect actor to inhabit a brand new role in a play that’s likely still in development. Over the course of five weeks, Lisa will demystify the audition process through rigorous exercises on audition preparation and scene analysis techniques, and guide you through how to prepare material ahead of time but still remain flexible enough to take direction in the room, including actively and effectively taking notes in the audition room and working with the reader. With priceless stories on audition successes and failures coupled with individualized feedback, Lisa will make you a stronger and more confident actor in the room. With material chosen specifically for you by Lisa, you will also receive in-depth discussion of current playwrights and today's new plays, exposing you to emerging voices premiering new plays across the country. You will leave this class with cold reading and prepared scene techniques, and a solid handle on the full audition process for new plays. Your final class will be attended by a prominent NYC director or casting agent, who will provide invaluable insight and feedback. Previous guests for Acting classes have included Darragh Garvey (Casting Department, MTC), Marcia Milgrom Dodge (Tony-nominated Director and Choreographer, Ragtime on Broadway), Ken Rus Schmoll (Director, Iowa at Playwrights Horizons), and Ken Melamed (Agent/Partner, Bret Adams Agency).
Please note that final class guests are subject to change.
